. Private Bonsai Lessons – One-on-One Instruction
Looking for personalized help with your bonsai? We offer private, one-on-one bonsai lessons tailored to your skill level and goals. Lessons are $75 per hour and cover essential techniques including potting, wiring, styling, pruning, and overall tree health. Students are welcome to bring their own trees, or choose from our selection of quality bonsai material.
For those who prefer hands-on assistance, professional bonsai services are also available. I can work directly on your trees, with travel available for a full-day rate of $450.
Private Bonsai Nursery – Yamadori & Cultivated Trees for Sale
Our private bonsai nursery specializes in the collection and styling of yamadori, honoring traditional Japanese bonsai principles with a American flare, while allowing each tree’s natural history to guide its final form. These wild-collected trees are carefully recovered, cultivated, and refined over time, preserving their age, movement, and character.
In addition to yamadori, we offer a rotating selection of pre-bonsai and finished bonsai, including Shimpaku juniper, Japanese maples, larch, Scots pine, potentilla, and Blue Atlas cedar to mention a few, stock is always rotating. Each tree is developed with intention, balance, and respect for classical form.
Nursery visits are available by appointment only. I encourage you to schedule a private visit to view our current inventory—we consistently have unique and inspiring material at various stages of development.
Bonsai Workshops – Species-Focused Instruction
We offer species-specific bonsai workshops designed for dedicated, hands-on study in a small group setting. Workshops are limited to 4–6 participants and run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a scheduled break for lunch. Instruction takes place in my studio and side garden, allowing for both indoor and outdoor work depending on the season and material.
Each participant brings their own tools and wire; trees are provided and are carefully selected to suit the workshop focus. A variety of high-quality material is available, ensuring every student works on a tree with strong potential.
In addition to in-studio workshops, I travel to bonsai clubs and organizations to host specialty workshops as part of my business model. These events are tailored to the host club and emphasize thoughtful design, technique, and long-term development. For those traveling to attend, convenient lodging options are available nearby, making these workshops well-suited for out-of-town students seeking immersive bonsai instruction.
